Description

This classic Bolognese pasta features a deeply savory, slow-simmered meat sauce, rich with tender ground beef, aromatic vegetables, and ripe tomatoes. The robust sauce coats al dente tagliatelle, creating a comforting and satisfying dish. Finished with a sprinkle of fresh parsley and grated Parmesan, it offers a harmonious blend of hearty flavors and textures.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, finely chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 pound tagliatelle or fettuccine pasta
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
  • Parmesan cheese, grated, for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add chopped onion, carrots, and celery to the pot. Cook until softened, about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Stir in minced garlic, oregano, and basil. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Pour in crushed tomatoes and beef broth. Season with salt and pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and let it gently simmer for at least 1 hour, or up to 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally. The longer it simmers, the richer the flavor.
  5. About 15 minutes before the sauce is ready, cook the pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain, reserving about 1/2 cup of pasta water.
  6. Add the drained pasta to the sauce, tossing to coat. If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of reserved pasta water to reach desired consistency.
  7. Serve immediately, garnished with fresh chopped parsley and grated Parmesan cheese.

Notes

For a deeper flavor, allow the Bolognese sauce to simmer for at least 2 hours.

Freshly grated Parmesan cheese enhances the overall taste significantly.

Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper before serving.

This sauce freezes well for future meals.
