Description

This velvety smooth frosting offers a delightful combination of rich cocoa and the creamy texture of ripe avocado. It presents a subtly sweet profile with a luxurious mouthfeel, making it an ideal topping for various desserts without requiring any cooking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ripe medium avocados, pitted and scooped
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup (or agave nectar)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 24 tablespoons unsweetened almond milk (or other plant-based milk), as needed
  • Pinch of sea salt

Instructions

  1. In a food processor or high-speed blender, combine the scooped avocado flesh, unsweetened cocoa powder, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and sea salt.
  2. Blend until completely smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides as needed to ensure no lumps remain.
  3. If the frosting is too thick, add almond milk one tablespoon at a time until the desired spreadable consistency is reached.
  4. Taste and adjust sweetness if necessary by adding more maple syrup, or add a little more cocoa powder for a deeper chocolate flavor.
  5. Transfer the frosting to an airtight container and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to allow it to firm up slightly and for flavors to meld before using.

Notes

Ensure avocados are very ripe for the smoothest, creamiest texture and best flavor.

For a richer chocolate flavor, you can lightly toast the cocoa powder in a dry pan for a minute before adding it.

This frosting can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days in an airtight container.

If the frosting becomes too firm after chilling, let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes or re-blend with a tiny splash of milk to restore its spreadability.
