Description

These vibrant turkey burgers offer a delightful fusion of sweet, savory, and subtly spicy flavors. Lean ground turkey patties are seasoned with aromatic ginger and garlic, then pan-seared to a tender finish. Each patty is generously coated in a glossy Thai sweet chili glaze, nestled within a soft, toasted bun, and complemented by crisp cucumber slices and fresh cilantro. A garnish of thinly sliced red chilies adds a final touch of color and a gentle warmth.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Turkey Patties:
  • 1.5 lbs ground turkey (93% lean)
  • 1/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)
  • For the Sweet Chili Glaze:
  • 1/2 cup Thai sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lime juice
  • For Assembly:
  • 6 slider buns or regular burger buns
  • 1/2 English cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves
  • 12 red chilies (like bird's eye or serrano), thinly sliced (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. **Prepare the Turkey Patties:** In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, panko breadcrumbs, egg, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon lime juice, grated ginger, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix. Form the mixture into 6 equal patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
  2. **Cook the Patties:** Heat olive oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the turkey patties and cook for 4-6 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature reaches 165°F / 74°C).
  3. **Make the Glaze:** While the patties cook, whisk together the Thai sweet chili sauce, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, and 1 teaspoon lime juice in a small bowl.
  4. **Glaze the Patties:** During the last minute of cooking, brush the cooked turkey patties generously with the sweet chili glaze, allowing it to caramelize slightly.
  5. **Assemble the Burgers:** Lightly toast the burger buns if desired. Place a few cucumber slices on the bottom half of each bun. Top with a glazed turkey patty, a sprinkle of fresh cilantro, and a few slices of red chili (if using). Place the top bun on and serve immediately.

Notes

Do not overmix the turkey patty mixture to ensure tender burgers.

For extra flavor, toast the burger buns lightly before assembling.

Adjust the amount of fresh red chilies to your preferred spice level.

These burgers can be prepared ahead by forming the patties and storing them in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
