Description

This delightful snack offers a playful twist on a classic treat. Crispy rice cereal squares are coated in a vibrant strawberry-flavored mixture, then generously tossed with powdered sugar, creating a sweet and slightly tangy experience reminiscent of strawberry shortcake. The texture is a satisfying blend of crunchy cereal and soft, melt-in-your-mouth coating. This no-bake confection is perfect for gatherings or a sweet indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups rice square cereal
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup freeze-dried strawberries, finely crushed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • Optional: 1-2 drops red food coloring

Instructions

  1. Place the rice cereal in a large heatproof bowl and set aside.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the butter and white chocolate chips. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until melted and smooth.
  3. Stir in the finely crushed freeze-dried strawberries and vanilla extract into the melted chocolate mixture. If desired, add 1-2 drops of red food coloring for a more intense pink hue.
  4. Pour the strawberry-chocolate mixture over the cereal in the large bowl. Gently fold with a spatula until the cereal is evenly coated.
  5. Transfer the coated cereal to a large resealable bag or a large bowl with a lid. Add the powdered sugar.
  6. Seal the bag (or cover the bowl) and shake vigorously until all the cereal pieces are thoroughly coated with powdered sugar.
  7. Spread the puppy chow onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to cool and set for about 15-20 minutes before serving.

Notes

Ensure freeze-dried strawberries are finely crushed for a smooth coating; a food processor works best.

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.

For easier coating, work in two batches if your bowl or bag is not large enough.

Cooling on parchment paper prevents sticking and helps the coating set.
